working with byte studios

Working with a web and video developer can be daunting.  We believe that working with us isn't daunting at all.  We've heard over and over that we speak our clients' language, and we take the time to explain the options fully. Most importantly, we listen to our clients and talk about real issues and questions.  We're honest, sometimes alarmingly so.  We find that to be disarming - our clients expect us to say what's on our minds, and that way, they can make better decisions.

So, let's discuss the process.

First, we need to learn about the organization and project.  We usually tour the organization's facilities, sit down with a large white sheet of paper and ask a lot of basic questions.

Second, we have the client complete a series of worksheets. That helps us get an idea of what the client wants and the project's design needs.

Third, we do some cursory research - competitors, thought leaders, blogs, white papers, etc.

Fourth, we write a cost / work proposal.  We merge the client's ideas, worksheets, and our research, and we produce a proposal that line-items every idea and need. We put it all out on the table.

The proposal is delivered and discussed, our new ideas are explained, and the client chooses what they want for a first or second stage project.  We decide on a time frame and cost.

Then, the design starts.  That's a process where we come up with series of designs based on our conversations, the worksheets, and our research. We present at least three different mock-ups to the client.  We get feedback and either start with another three or hone in on the good ideas / designs.  We won't pass the design phase until the customer is 100% happy.

As soon as the client approves the design concept, we build the HTML / CSS, validate it, and test it in all relevant browsers and platforms.  We get another approval from the client before we go to the next step.

We then create the content management system (CMS) and all the site tools.  The client is often involved in this part of the process, supplying pages or working on the pages as we work to create the website tools.

Once we are finished creating the tools, we take the site to completion. We take the site to a 'beta' stage.  We give the client a full tutorial on how to manage the CMS. We work with the client through the beta until the site is ready to go live.

Typically, we manage the DNS and domain issues for the client to put it live. Most often, we manage the hosting fully. Most clients prefer to use our hosting services because we offer upgraded servers and great site maintenance options.

At this point, the site is finished. We support the site for a minimum of one year of operation at no charge; however, if the client hosts with us, we support it for the life of the site.

Sound easy enough?  Perhaps you want to learn a little about who we are. >>
